I was window shopping on zappos (yes, I online window shop, but this isn't about that....) and I was looking at this shoe:
Do you think they are cute? I am looking for a comfortable and sensible pair of mom shoes to go with my new mom car and mom lifestyle. (Ugh - I can feel I am over the hill on this transition and there seems to be no looking back now.)
Well, if you shop online much (window or otherwise) you will notice they often provide you some suggested items on the side of the screen based on your viewing history. So, what about that pair of shoes up there do you think made zappos think I might be interested in this beauty???
Yowzas, Zappos!!!
You know, I was beginning to think we were at the start of a beautiful friendship. You were doing so well what with the free shipping and easy returns and all. I thought you knew me! And then you drop this bomb?!
I'm going to give you another chance, Zappos. But mostly because I appreciate your sense of humor. Besides the unnatural association made above, there is always what drew me to you in the first place........

bread

On my way to work yesterday there was a loaf of bread on the side of the highway. It was so weird! Just a loaf of bread sitting on the side of the highway!
Then while running errands around town last night, I saw a loaf of bread on a sidewalk. What the heck????
People are losing their bread all over the place!!
This recession is worse than I thought.

adventures in "vintage" clothes shopping
I was shopping in the Salvation Army today. We are having a retro birthday party for our friend tomorrow, and everyone is going all out with outfits and everything. (This crowd is all about the theme. Don't mess.)
So I'm wandering around in the store and I realized I didn't know how to shop there. I was in awe of the strange and wonderful way they separate the clothes. I mean, who DOESN'T need a smart pair of slacks? With a jazzy little blouse I suppose.
But please, if you EVER find me as a regular shopper in the "Elastic Waist" section, just shoot me on the spot and put me out of whatever misery I am obviously enduring.
I found a hot pink slip on shoe at the end of the shoe aisle. There was only one. I said to DH- "This is perfect! You have GOT to help me find the other shoe!" The lady working overheard and said, "Oh, I've got the other one here behind the counter. We like to keep the good ones separate like that."
Whoa. So many thoughts. I will give her a courtesy do over in determining the shoe is a "good" one. But I must also note that it cost $4 for the pair. And I never realized what a problem Salvation Army used shoe theft must be.
As we went up to pay, there was a guy at the counter on the phone checking out. I heard him say, "No man. I'm not going home. I'm picking up Sara something and then I'm going to her place for a bit." So I look down at his purchase just as the lady asks him, "Do you want a bag for that?" "No." And he grabbed up his handful of Salvation Army lingerie to take to his girl.
Yeah. Any time things are feeling rough, just remember the poor girl whose man stopped at the Salvation Army to pick her up a little something on his way over for his booty call. Yikes.

out of the mouths of babes
"M is not my friend anymore. My arm touched her arm when we were reading and she started yelling at me. I don't know why. She probably won't even invite me to her birthday party anymore and I wouldn't go anyways even if she did. I learned this from my sister - Treat people the way you want to be treated. So if she wants to be mean and not like me than I'm going to do the same to her."
Oh. I think something about the Golden Rule was a little lost in the translation. Soooo close. I almost thought I was doing a good job there for a second. I was almost touched.

tales of the bobblehead
When you are a smart@ss, it seems inevitable that you are going to raise smart@ss kids.
Throughout football season, Burger King was giving out bobble head dolls of the Burger King in various football poses. My lovely children, much to my dismay, had acquired several of these creepy King replicas. They, of course, thought the commercials with this over the top peeping Tom to be oh so hilarious. I personally don't like the King. I just don't understand why this guy is breaking into people's homes to bring them breakfast sandwiches. It's just not normal.
I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when I woke up one morning with one of those little bobbling King dolls resting peacefully on my pillow, staring me straight in the face. After I stop screaming I hear giggling from outside the door. Followed by the question, "What's the matter Mama? Did you "Wake up with the King?"
Ah well. At least they have a good sense of humor.
